This workout literally crushed my legs (and glutes) at the gym last week- I was sore for a couple days, which rarely happens to me. I wanted to change it up and use some machines because I tend to go a little heavier on my weights when I’m using the machines versus free weights. Supersets are also my favorite way to lift weights- it keeps more interested and working harder. I started with a 1 mile warm up (walk/run) and then headed over to the equipment.
Lately this is what exercise has looked like to me… lifting at least 2-3x/week and then throwing in HIIT 1-2x/week, plus a run 1x/week. This is the least I’ve run in years!!!! I’m actually not missing it at all. I think training for the Half Ironman burned me out bad on endurance exercise for now. I do plan on doing more triathlons and a half marathon (and probably a marathon next fall) this is a break my body needs right now. Summer last year was plagued by coming back from an injury and this summer was tri training nonstop (made less enjoyable by a big move/life change/etc.). Now I’m back to just enjoying exercise- no competing, and I love it. I never weight myself but I definitely feel like I’m putting on a lot of muscle and strength with this type of fitness routine. Since I took an extended off season I feel like in 2018 I will come back to competing better, stronger, faster.
What’s your favorite muscle group to work?? I think legs days are my personal fav 🙂
