Pittsburgh has had a restaurant renaissance and has many new and exciting restaurants fit for a foodie- from classics to the latest and greatest.
After a little over a year of moving back to Pittsburgh and exploring the foodie scene I wanted to share some of my favorites. I still have so many more delicious places to conquer but these would be my top 10 recommendations for anyone visiting the area. This list is in no particular order and each place was chosen for a reason which I briefly summarized. These are my favorite foodie restaurants in Pittsburgh I don’t want anyone to miss!
1. Smallman Galley (now known as Bakery Square Galley)
This is the latest in food- cafeteria style dining with multiple cuisine options. I usually opt for Iron Born Pizza but there is something for everyone. (Edited to add that Iron Born now has standalone stores in the Strip and Millvale!)
2. Meat and Potatoes
This is the Pittsburgh quintessential brunch place! They have the best bloody mary bar I’ve ever seen (so many topping options) and the food is awesome as well.
3. Millie’s
The best ice cream I’ve ever had in my life-and a new shop is opening soon in Lawrenceville. Try the salted cookie dough or peanut butter which are two of my personal favs, but my husband loves the Vietnamese coffee (There are also vegan options!)
4. Salud Juicery
My go-to for smoothies in Pittsburgh with multiple locations throughout the city. I typically order the Jungle VIP or P-Bee bowl. Everything is freshly made to order and tastes so fresh and light.
5. De Fer Coffee Shop
I had to make sure to include a coffee place because right now I’m making my way through the Coffee Passport. I’ve been to De Fer a few times now and their food is just amazing as the coffee- don’t miss out on the breakfast panini.
6. Cure (Unfortunately Cure is now defunct but Morcilla is an equally delicious option!)
Definitely a special occasion spot you don’t want to miss. I would recommend checking out the tasting menu- it’s meat centric but there is also a vegetarian menu. Sister restaurant Morcilla is a less fancy but also excellent.
7. Wise Co Biscuits
This is technically more of a food truck but I needed to give it a shout out because it became a main Sunday morning staple in my life when it was set up at Coffee Buddha last year. The biscuits are unbelievable and toppings are endless.
8. Oakmont Bakery
This world famous bakery just expanded to a much larger space earlier this week. The tiny shop was amazing and I know the quality will be just as great at the new digs.
9. Eleven
A member of the Big Burrito Restaurant group, which never disappoints- this is a huge and beautiful space in the Strip. The menu is vast and flavorful which makes it a great option for visitors.
10. Burgatory
A Pittsburgh staple with locations throughout the city. It’s great for people of all ages and have great options for high quality beef as well as vegetarian options. I also highly recommend grabbing a milkshake (my favorite is the nutter butter).
