Most people have heard of probiotics before, right?? They are the live organisms in your gut that help inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria while maintaining the good bacteria that leads to a happy and health gut. Some people believe very strongly in the benefits of probiotics and use them daily either through foods or a supplement. Using real food over a supplement will always lead to better absorption of any nutrient versus taking a pill. Studies have shown different strains to have different benefits. I always say the more strains the better!! The most common source of probiotics is yogurt, other food sources include, sauerkraut, spirulina, miso, tempeh, and kimchi, some soft cheese, buttermilk, and kombucha tea, and kefir.

Today I’m talking about yogurt… I’ll be honest with you, I used to hate yogurt, the consistency grossed me out! I only started eating it post undergrad. Now, I go into spurts of eating it every day and then being sick of it for a while and just adding it to smoothies or other recipes. However it is an amazing source of probiotics and nutrition so it is something great to have for breakfast or as a snack.  It’s best to buy unsweetened unflavored unfruit added yogurt and add your own flavor. I like my plain yogurt with a little honey and A LOT of granola! That being said, today I’m sharing a very simple and delicious granola. Great for topping yogurt, desserts, eating plain, or eating with milk as cereal.
