I live in an old Philadelphia neighborhood that is full of hills. In fact, I live near the top of a 12% grade hill. While walking up these hills from the main street is great exercise itself, there are also outdoor staircases on many of the streets. Stair workouts are not something I do often but I think they are a great way to change up some cardio. Although I must disclose I find stair workouts slightly frightening for fear of falling down said stairs. So be very careful, if you don’t have a good fitness level and balance this might not be the best workout for you. Or start small and work your way up as you build confidence and athleticism.

Easy warm up walking up and down the stairs at a comfortable pace- 3x

Workout: (repeat round 3-4 times)

-Sprint up and walk down stairs-1x

-Lunges up the stairs (skipping at least one step each lunge) and Squats down the stairs-2x

-Sprint up and walk down stairs-1x

-Backwards walk up and down stairs (carefully and slowly) -1x

-Sprint up and walk down stairs- 1x

Cool down with walk home!
