Sorry I went MIA on the blog for a bit, I was having some technical issues…. but I’m back in action now! Yesterday kicked off the first day of Spring and even though most of the Northeast got pounded with snow it still means a new season is upon us. I like to use each season as a start to a new chapter and focus on something new or exciting. For me, April means it’s time to kick off triathlon training!!!! I took Aug- December off from any endurance training- no swimming, biking, or running (more than 3 miles). That was down time for me, working out for fun… Dec through March was mostly amping up my strength training. I can’t believe all the progress I’ve made in increasing weights and bulking up a bit the past few months. I feel stronger than ever and hopefully the strength training helped prevent any endurance training burn out to come!
Though my lifting will go down in the next several months I will definitely still be focusing on body weight exercises and strength training for injury prevention. I’ve been doing more tabata style workouts over the past few months whenever I want to break a quick sweat but can’t make it to the gym. Leg Day is generally my favorite exercise day of the week so I wanted to share a tabata leg day workout I’ve been doing recently.
Tabata workouts are essentially 20 seconds of all out intensity, 10 seconds rest, repeat for 8 rounds. I typically have been mixing this in with some weighted front squats, single leg deadlights, glute bridges, and walking lunges, but it could also be done alone. This type of interval training is a fun way to exercise and great when you need to fit a workout in a small window. Give it a try and let me know what you think! Don’t forget to check out my workouts page for some of my other favs!
